Today Show Appearance

My main man, Charlie Todd, was on the Today Show to promote the new Improv Everywhere book. And he totally rocked Al Roker’s world. Charlie even gave me a shout out while they screened the High Five Escalator video (about a minute in). Purdy cool.

Dr. Lanny Latham might also make an appearance. So with Lanny and Andrew W.K. in the same building, expect psychedness levels to reach proporations as described in this article.

Surprise Wedding Reception

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Click here to watch it in HD.

Here is the newest Improv Everywhere mission where we threw a surprise wedding reception for a random couple getting married at the City Clerk’s Office in Manhattan. You can read all about it here.

I got to play the fake Best Man and gave a heartfelt toast to the bride and the groom. Even though I didn’t really know them, I think I left a profound impression.

New Improv Everywhere Book: Causing a Scene

Friday, May 15th, 2009

ie-book

Next week, expect tons of events and news items surrounding Improv Everywhere.  I’m basically not gonna shut up about it.

First item on the list: the new Improv Everywhere book hits stores on May 19th. It was written by Charlie Todd and Alex Scordelis. I’ve seen parts of the book already and it looks amazing. There is even an entire chapter devoted to the Rob! Mission in which I got lost all over Yankee Stadium. I contributed a few quotes and bits of advice to that chapter. So please check it out. You can pre-order the book on Amazon.

In addition, there will be a book release party and show at the UCB Theatre this Monday night at 9:30. I think the show might be sold out already. But hey, maybe you could take my ticket if I don’t make it there somehow…

Getting the Light

Getting the Light

On Monday night, I had the good fortune of performing at Whiplash at the UCB Theatre. But I think I might have gone a little over my time. Did they flash the light at me? I couldn’t tell.

Here are some choice photos from the evening taken by Mindy Tucker.

Two Upcoming Shows: Fancy Seeing You Here & Whiplash

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hey internet. Is anyone out there? Check this out. I’ve got two big time shows coming up. The first one actually takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this Friday night at 7:30. I’m still trying to figure out what the show is myself. But I do know that it is hosted by Carl Arnheiter and Dave Hill, and is already getting some good buzz. Here’s an article about it written by Jane Borden in this week’s Time Out New York. I honestly have no idea what I am going to do.

Fancy Meeting You Here
Hosted by Carl Arnheiter and Dave Hill
Friday, May 8th at 7:30 pm
Metropolitan Museum of Art
1000 Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street
(Meet at the front steps)

The second show I’m doing is WHIPLASH at the UCB Theatre on Monday at 11 pm. This is a legendary show with some of the best comics in town. So it’s an honor to be on the bill. But I think I only have one minute to tell my jokes… So we’ll see what happens…

WHIPLASH
Hosted by Leo Allen
Monday, May 11th at 11 pm
UCB Theatre
307 West 26th Street
Reservations

So I guess in both instances there’s no telling what to expect. But to paraphrase an old classic from Mitch Magee, expect this: Comedy will meet Fantasy.

Prank Gone Bad: Water Wake Up

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

A few days ago I thought I’d play this prank on my buddy Jim. But it didn’t really pan out like I planned.

I think the prank inadvertently demonstrates that waterboarding doesn’t work.

Also, please digg this video if you have a digg account.

Shot by legendary cinematographer: Jawnee Conroy (A.S.C.)

Jim is Jim Ford.

April Showers Bring Banners to the Dome

Monday, April 6th, 2009

In case you haven’t seen this yet, I participated in an April Fools Prank with Improv Everywhere called “Best Funeral Ever”. The whole thing was staged, but several people were “fooled” including the CW11 News:

Here are a few outtakes from the event, including me offering my patented “high five” to a family member of the deceased. Probably not a good idea at a funeral…

What else, what else…Tonight I will once again be co-hosting Street Meat with Heather Fink. Details:

Street Meat
Tonight at 8 pm
Cake Shop
152 Ludlow Street (bt. Stanton and Rivington)
-Billy Scafuri and Adam Lustick
-Kelly Hudson and Emily Strachan
-Harry Terjanian
FREE

And finally, right after my show, I’m sprinting to No Idea bar to watch UNC play bball in the national championship. Here’s an inspirational video called Banners to the Dome from my main man Robbie Shaw that should hopefully motivate the Heels to victory:

Gary the Demon PA on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Friday, March 13th, 2009

On Wednesday, I got to play a demon character on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Specifically I played a production assistant named Gary who also happens to be a demon. It was a fun part to play (written by the talented Morgan Murphy). And it was very cool being on set at 30 Rock and meeting everybody. There aren’t individual clips of the sketches I was in, so to view them you’ll have to click on a link to the full episode. I appear at the end of chapter one (8 minutes in) and at the end of chapter two (14 minutes in). Here’s the link:

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Full Episode

My family was excited about my appearance (even if they couldn’t recognize my face). When my sister Caroline told her 7 year old son, Sam (my nephew), that I was going to be on TV, he got really excited and was like, “Like real TV?? No way!! He’s gonna be rich!!! We’re all gonna be rich!!!! Yes!!!” That’s the power of TV at work my friends. Expect several wads of “Benjamins” coming your way courtesy of Gary, the demon PA. Just make sure to hide your babies.

Added: some behind the scenes footage shot by Cory Cavin.

As you can tell from the video, I start off the day looking like a tired and pathetic normal guy. But Late Night did a spectacular job whipping me into shape and turning me into a demon. The make-up guy is Josh Turi, who does the make-up and prosthetics for SNL.
