My Andy Kaufman Award Entry

October 15th, 2007

So I submitted a video to be a possible contestant for The Andy Kaufman Award. It’s actually a pretty big deal to win this thing. You win $5,000. But more importantly, you get respect in the comedy community. It’s tough to win though. First a panel of judges picks the top 8 contestants who submit and flies them out to Vegas. Then those 8 contestants perform at Caesar’s Palace and a winner is chosen. So the first step is to have one of the top 8 submissions. Click the link below to view my submission.

Voices in My Head

It’s from a performance at UCB at a show called School Night. Hopefully it’s good enough. Feel free to give it a good rating if you like it.

Interesting tidbit: I used to do this bit years ago and have recently revived it for The Andy Kaufman Award. The last time I had performed it was at the very first Osgood-Schlatter Show at UNDER St. Marks in January of 2002. But when I did it, the tech guy never pressed play for the voice-over to come in and say, “you suck”. So I simply told bad jokes. The audience thought I was telling my real jokes that I thought were funny. After that show I vowed never to do the bit again. But now…I’ve gotten over it. It’s a fun bit to do. Especially if it gets me to Vegas.

I’m glad that this video is tagged with both “microwave” and “popcorn” — that should help both the microwave and the popcorn zealots come see this video!

I liked this video a lot. Rated 5 squares!

  2. Patbaer Says:

Hope I did okay on tech, Rob.

  3. Lathan Says:

Yeah Will. There are a ton of microwave AND popcorn zealots stalking ziddio.com.

And thanks for the 5 square rating!

  4. Lathan Says:

Pat, you were excellent on the tech as always. You even knew when to turn the volume up on the voice-overs and turn it down with the music! (Pat did the tech for the performance at UCB.)

And whoever’s reading this, it wasn’t Pat Baer who was teching the bit the very first time I did it when the voice-overs never played. Pat would never do that!
