On Tuesday night, I had the pleasure of appearing in a Conan sketch with none other than Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. We filmed it on Sunday at the Tony Awards. It was really cool just to be there – not only to see all of the nominees and presenters walk by – but also to see the mad genius of Robert Smigel in action.
For the bit, I was asked to play the “Tuberculosis Guy” , so the entire time I stood next to Triumph and wore a surgical mask – which freaked out some of the stars walking by. Also on hand to assist Triumph was an arena league football quarterback (or a fake one) and none other than Abe Vigoda. Smigel kept telling us to hop the gate so we could walk with the stars on the red carpet. We did this three times. And the same security guard tracked us down each time. He was like, “Come on guys. You can’t keep doing this.” I felt like I was back in high school. Only this time I was being lectured by a security guard at the Tony Awards and my cohorts were an arena league football player and Abe Vigoda. All in all, great times.
Here’s the Triumph clip. “Tuberculosis Guy” appears towards the end. So does Abe.
