The DR
February 22nd, 2007Niki and I just got back from a little vacation in the Dominican Republic. We stayed at one of those all inclusive places – where all of the food and alcohol is free. This sounds like a brilliant idea, but after a while you get sick of eating the same thing every single meal. There was a buffet set up inside this gigantic hall.

It was basically like sticking a giant Sizzler somewhere in the middle of the Dominican Republic. At the end of the line there was a big barrell where you could get three types of vintage wine all poured from a tap.

All inclusive also meant free entertainment, which included a late night disco – where many vacationers were apt to get down and dirty.

The biggest entertainment with the vacationers was of course Fake Michael Jackson.

And believe it or not, there were quite a few ”rednecks” at the resort. Jerry Foxworthy would’ve had a field day. Especially if his good friend, Shane MacDougal, was on hand. The surprising part was that these rednecks were not solely from the U.S. but mainly from European countries such as Germany, Holland, and even (or especially) France. Things get dangerous when European and redneck cultures collide. Unfortunately I don’t have any pics, but there were several vacationers sporting the killer combination of mustache, gold chain, and “weenie-bikini” bathing suit. But probably the most obnoxious redneck contingent on hand had to be that couple that went around taking pictures of themselves with their own camera.

Or the schlomo who thought himself such a photo hound that he insisted on framing the shot for the old man nice enough to take a photo of the (fairly) newlyweds.
